Win a 3-month subscription to DocPlay – NZ’s mighty documentary streaming service

Flicks is giving five people a 3-month subscription to DocPlay. Flicks writer Liam Maguren is giving everyone recommendations on what to watch on NZ’s mighty documentary platform.

UPDATE: The competition is now closed and winners have been notified.

I’ve told you once and I’ll tell you again: you need to check out DocPlay if you love documentaries and docuseries.

It’s a sponge for a heap of great docos that come out of the New Zealand International Film Festival and it’s roughly half the cost of Netflix (along with a 30-day free trial). Some noteworthy arrivals include Facebook exposé The Cleaners, American religion-challenging doco Hail Satan? and unsung film hero tale Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story as well as Sundance-nominated ambulance thriller Midnight Family (streaming exclusively from 30th April) and Oscar nominee RBG (streaming from 16th April).

It’s a truly vast and varied library that cuts out the fat and leaves only quality filmmaking on the plate. Memory: The Origins of Alien details the untold origin of Ridley Scott’s classic horror; The Price of Everything explores the absurdity of high-priced art; Escher: Journey into Infinity tells MC Escher’s story as MC Escher would have envisaged… DocPlay is seriously packed with brain food.

It also plays host to a mighty selection of Kiwi films like Ever the Land, On An Unknown Beach, and NZ’s highest-grossing doco ever Richie McCaw: Chasing Great.

I could easily turn this post into an exhaustive list of must-see recommendations, but I already did that here. Instead, let’s give away some 3-month subscriptions.
