How to watch The Marvels in New Zealand

The mighty Marvel Cinematic Universe is spinning into high gear again, with this sequel to Captain Marvel. And it’s a sequel to Ms. Marvel. And technically WandaVision as well. And Secret Invasion. Look, these things may be getting a little homework-heavy…

How to watch The Marvels in New Zealand

The Marvels is in New Zealand cinemas from November 9.

What is The Marvels about?

Why don’t we let the official synopsis do the heavy lifting?

“In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

The cast of  The Marvels

Brie Larson is Captain Marvel; Teyonah Parris is Monica Rambeau, also known as Captain Marvel in the original comics; and Iman Vellani is Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, who will doubtless also be called Captain Marvel at some point down the track. Plus we’ve got Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie (an appearance only revealed in the latest trailer), Zawe Ashton as Kree villain Dar-Benn, and Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, Lashana Lynch, and Randall Park in support. Goose the Flerken is also back but has been recast, as cats don’t live that long.

What are the critics saying about The Marvels?

Absolutely nothing! Seems to be a dearth of press screenings for this one, and box office predictions have The Marvels pegged as performing worse that DC/Warner’s disastrous The Flash. While quality and box office performance are not necessarily linked, Disney withholding critical access to the very last minute suggests they know they’ve got a dud on their hands.
