How to watch Wrestlers in New Zealand

Even superstars start somewhere. The Rock wasn’t always The Rock, and John Cena wasn’t always John Cena (Andre the Giant was always giant, though). This new seven-part documentary series takes us behind the scenes of a minor wrestling league where legends are forged in crucible of pain. Sound good? Yeah it does…

How to watch Wrestlers in Australia

In New Zealand, Wrestlers is streaming exclusively on Netflix.

What is Wrestlers about?

Welcome to the world of Al Snow, a legendary figure in professional wrestling who operates the struggling Ohio Valley Wrestling franchise. Given full access to Snow’s life and business, Wrestlers promises to give us a rare look at the big drama and even bigger personalities who inhabit the indie wrestling scene. As Netflix tells us over on Tudum: “The fight at the centre of the story is even more intense: Legendary wrestler Al Snow is attempting to keep professional wrestling league Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) afloat, navigating the brutal waters of mounting debt and the power struggles of new ownership.”

The cast of Wrestlers

Al Snow aside, don’t go expecting too many big names here. The wrestlers at the heart of this story are all ambitious up-and-comers determined to claw their way to the top of the pile in the hyper-competitive world of professional wrestling. So, don’t worry if names such as HollyHood Haley J, Ca$h Flo, Mahabali Shera, and Mister Pectacular yet. This is a classic underdog story.

Why are we excited about Wrestlers?

As we noted, it’s an underdog story, and who doesn’t love those? Al snow, who made his name in the ’90s thanks to a fearlessly unhinged in-ring persona, is a fascinating figure, a gruff but lovable mentor who stands in sharp contrast with WWE’s villainous Vince McMahon. And there’s just something about the sleazy-glamourous wrestling world that just speaks to us.
