New Zealand trailer and release date for Love is in the Air

It’s been five years since Australian singing icon Delta Goodrem took an acting role, playing Olivia Newton-John in the TV miniseries Olivia: Hopelessly Devoted to You. But now she’s back, taking to the skies in the new romantic comedy Love is in the Air, which arrives in New Zealand when it starts streaming on Netflix from September 29.

It’s a bit weird they’re both named after songs, isn’t it? Directed by Adrian Powers, who also gave us the similarly tropical A Royal in Paradise, Love is in the Air sets its scene in the sunny Whitsundays, where Dana Randall (Goodrem), a fiercely independent, island-hopping pilot, runs a small air service alongside her father and her best friend, mechanic Nikki (Steph Tisdell).

Dana is far too busy for romance, having bigger fish to fry as London-based financial representative William (Joshua Sasse, who was engaged to Kylie Minogue back in the day) has come to town to look over the company’s finances. And, if necessary, shutter the ailing business.

But, as these things tend to go, what begins as a prickly adversarial relationship soon starts to get romantic. Are these two perfect for each other? Look, if you’re familiar with the genre, you know that’s not much of a mystery…

This is just the latest in the recent boom of Queensland productions, with the George Clooney/Julia Roberts romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise and Stan’s crime series Black Snow also being shot there, taking advantage of the stunning tropical vistas and dodging the odd cyclone. It’s great to see Goodrem back on the screen, and Powers certainly knows how to lens a charming rom-com.

Sunny, sweet, and laced with deadpan Aussie humour, Love is in the Air is sure to win legions of fans.
