NZIFF announces film festival’s return to cinemas from July through September

Whānau Mārama: New Zealand International Film Festival has announced its dates for 2023 – and a return to its regular format.

Movie lovers around Aotearoa will welcome the return of Whānau Mārama: New Zealand International Film Festival in just a few months. The festival has announced cinema dates commencing from July and staggered around the country through August and September. Welcomely, after last year’s leaner festival following two years of COVID-19-impacted events, NZIFF expands back to 17 towns and cities across Aotearoa, including new regions Whangārei and Gisborne.

We’re also happy to see the festival confirm a return to its regular format: “running across three weekends of winter in all major centres”.

No titles have been announced as yet, but will likely include films direct from Cannes and other major global festivals, as well as once more showcasing New Zealand features, docos and shorts.
