Watch a film under the stars at Openair Cinemas

Summer in the New Year is the season for beer, wine, sunshine, jandals and resolutions that don’t last.

It is also the season for outdoor cinemas, which lure film lovers from the comfort of couches and recliners to picnic rugs and freshly mowed lawns.

Openair Cinemas brings a holy trinity of great things beginning with f: food, fun and flicks.

Their dog-friendly outdoor screenings take place in Auckland’s Western Springs Park (January 17 to February 17) and Christchurch’s Rauora Park (March 1 to April 7).

A wide variety of hit films are on the programme including (among many others) A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody Sing-Along, Aquaman, Vice, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Bumblebee, Instant Family, Mary Poppins Returns, The Favourite, Ralph Breaks the Internet and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

In Auckland, Mountainfilm On Tour brings its curated selections of shorts for a very special screening on February 12 and Kiwi hit The Breaker Upperers returns for an equally special Valentine’s Day night out.
